Local Sydney crew
Your driveway has absorbed six months of Sydney grit. Tyre marks. Oil drips. Rust stains from the car. Maybe black mould creeping up the shade side. Rain washes nothing away - the stains just get darker. Pressure cleaning strips it all back to bare concrete in one afternoon. But you've probably got questions: how much will it cost? Will it damage the surface? Can you DIY it, or is it a job for a pro? This guide answers them all.
Want your driveway looking new?
We pressure clean concrete, exposed aggregate, pavers, and stencilcrete. Free quote within a business day, sealing optional.
How much does driveway pressure cleaning cost in Sydney?
Driveway pressure cleaning in Sydney is priced job by job because size, surface type, stain severity and location all change the time we spend on site. We stay competitive against other Hills District crews but we will not publish a rate that looks like a ceiling. If you are weighing up DIY versus a pro, the rest of this guide walks through what is actually involved. Get a custom quote when you are ready and we will price your job specifically.
| What we factor into your quote | Why it changes the price |
|---|---|
| Driveway size (single, double, long acreage) | Doubles roughly double the time on site; long acreage runs significantly more. |
| Surface type (concrete, exposed aggregate, sandstone, pavers) | Different surfaces need different pressure, chemistry and care. |
| Stain load (oil, rust, tyre marks, eucalyptus) | Heavy stains need pre-treatment and longer dwell times. |
| Access and slope | Tight side passages and steep grades slow the surface cleaner down. |
| Add-ons (paths, fences, garage slab) | Easy to roll into the same visit; saves a second callout. |
| Sealing afterwards | Optional protective layer; quoted on top of the clean. |
| Suburb | Hills District is our home base; further out adds travel. |
Hills District driveways often run longer than average, with Castle Hill, Kenthurst and Dural blocks tending to be bigger, so a long driveway plus paths takes more time and chemistry than a townhouse driveway in Rouse Hill. The per-square-metre rate stays similar, but total time on site adds up. Send through your address and a photo and we will price your driveway specifically rather than guessing from a chart.
What gets cleaned (and what doesn't)
What Changes Your Exterior Cleaning Quote
The seven factors that shape an accurate exterior cleaning quote, and how to get one fast. A plain-English planning guide with no pricing guesswork.
A pressure-cleaning job removes loose dirt, tyre marks, oil residue, rust stains, black mould, and organic growth (moss, lichen, algae). The cleaner hits 2,000 to 3,000 PSI of water pressure, which scours the surface. What it doesn't do: it won't strip a sealed surface entirely, restore a severely etched concrete driveway, or remove paint. If oil has soaked deep into the concrete, pressure cleaning alone won't pull it all out - you'll see the stain shadow fade significantly, but it won't vanish entirely. That's when a specialist degreaser or stain-stripping compound helps, which we can apply before or after the pressure clean for an add-on fee.
Why Hills District driveways stain faster than the rest of Sydney
The Hills District's natural landscape makes driveways dirtier, faster. Glenhaven, Kenthurst, and Dural sit under thick eucalyptus canopy. Eucalyptus leaves drop tannins - organic acids that stain concrete brown and create a stubborn bloom. The shaded south side of your driveway (common in these suburbs because of hill aspect and tree cover) stays moist longer, accelerating moss and lichen growth. Summer storms in the Hills bring heavier dust and leaf fall. All of that settles on the driveway and oxidises into stains that sunshine alone won't touch. That's why a Hills District driveway needs cleaning every 12 to 18 months, while a sun-exposed flat driveway in Parramatta or the Inner West might go 2 to 3 years. The best defence is pressure cleaning once a year, plus a regular maintenance clean after autumn leaf drop.
Concrete vs exposed aggregate vs sandstone
Standard concrete (most driveways): handles pressure cleaning well. The surface is hard and uniform, so 2,500 to 3,000 PSI does the job safely without risk of pitting or erosion. It cleans faster and costs less.
Exposed aggregate (newer Bella Vista and Kellyville estates, coloured pea gravel embedded in concrete) needs gentler pressure and more care. The gravel stones are weaker than the concrete matrix and a 0 degree tip will dislodge them. We use a wider fan and lower PSI on aggregate, which means more time on site. That extra time gets folded into your custom quote rather than a flat per-metre rate.
Sandstone (older Castle Hill and Dural properties) is porous, soft, and absorbs stains deep. High-pressure water will erode and scar it. We use soft-wash chemistry with a low-pressure rinse so the stone is cleaned without being damaged. Sandstone jobs usually take longer than concrete of the same size, so the quote reflects that, but we will price it specifically once we have seen photos.
How long does a driveway pressure clean take?
A single concrete driveway takes 1 to 1.5 hours. A double takes 1.5 to 2 hours. Timing depends on how dirty it is, the size, and surface type. Oil stains and stubborn algae add 15 to 20 minutes because they need a second pass or a degreaser. A driveway plus path together might take 2 to 2.5 hours. If you combine it with a house wash, the crew schedules them back-to-back and the total job is 3 to 4 hours. The job includes a pre-sweep (clearing leaves and loose debris), pressure washing, a final rinse, and removing excess water from edges and adjacent surfaces. You don't need to be home the whole time - many customers pop out, leave the gate unlocked, and we lock up after.
DIY pressure cleaning vs hiring a pro
DIY is a real option for a light annual maintenance clean. You can rent a 2,500 PSI pressure washer from Bunnings or Kennards for a day, plus detergent and a surface cleaner attachment. The maths only works out cheaper than a pro the first year. Once you factor in your weekend, the wear on your back, and the fact that domestic units etch concrete and dislodge paver sand if you are not careful, most homeowners book a pro for anything heavier than a quick rinse.
What we use: equipment and method
We use a truck-mounted pressure system that delivers 3,000 PSI hot water - hotter water dissolves oil and organic growth faster than cold water alone. For standard concrete, straight pressure and water do the job. For tougher stains, we apply a pH-neutral detergent and let it soak for 5 to 10 minutes to break down oils and oxidised tannins, then power-wash it off. We use a surface cleaner attachment (a flat deck with rotating nozzles) because it applies even pressure across a wide path, avoiding the streaking and pitting that a handheld wand creates. The surface cleaner is why a pro job is so much faster and cleaner than DIY. For sandstone and sealed surfaces, we switch to a low-pressure soft-wash head and a chemistry-first approach. The whole system is mobile - we arrive with everything needed, so no rental costs or hardware-store runs.
How to keep your driveway clean longer
Pressure cleaning buys you a fresh start, but preventing the stains in the first place saves money and time. If you can, park off the driveway to reduce the risk of tyre marks and oil drips accumulating. Sweep regularly. Rinse the surface with a garden hose every couple of months to keep eucalyptus oils from setting in. None of this replaces a proper clean, but it stretches the time between them.
